K9 Brutus was a cadaver dog who searched the Avery’s Auto Salvage property. Brutus' handler was Julie Kramer.

Summary[]

Brutus is a cadaver dog, meaning he can detect the smell of decomposition, such as a (part of a) body, or something that came from a body, such as blood, and had started decomposing after it left the body. When Brutus detects the smell of decomposition he will gave a trained alarm bark.

Brutus was brought to the area where the Toyota RAV4 was found and gave an alarm bark at the Toyota RAV4. Brutus was taken to Steven Avery’s trailer and gave an alarm bark in the laundry room. Brutus was taken to the bedroom and showed a lot of interest in it, but did not give an alarm bark. Julie attempted to take Brutus to Avery’s garage, but as they neared it Brutus became extremely agitated. Julie stopped her dog at the sight of a large dangerous looking German Shephard. Later, Brutus gave an alert at the Janda burn barrel, where eventually the victim's burned remains were found.

On Monday 7 November Brutus was taken to a suspected burial site at Kuss Rd. and gave an alarm bark at the designated area.[1] The site was excavated but nothing of note was found.
